Persons Team Call Out

    A.                 Policy - None 

     

    B.                  Procedure  

    1.      A detective from the Major Crimes Unit shall be assigned on-call duty for a week's period of time on a rotating basis.  During the assigned period of time the on-call detective shall be authorized to take an unmarked vehicle home with him/her and shall be available by phone for contact. 

     

    2.      Each on-call detective shall be responsible for responding to the following: 

     

    a)     Homicides or attempt homicide (if substantial risk of death exists).   

     

    b)     Deaths: including suicide, accidental or questionable. (Child abuse, which results in death, is the responsibility of the Crimes Against Children Team) 

     

    c)      Police-involved shootings 

     

    d)     Kidnappings (when circumstances require a response)  

     

    e)     Sexual assaults when victim is 18 years of age or older.  

     

    f)       An arson involving serious bodily injury or death. 

     

    g)     Explosions causing serious bodily injury or death or extensive property damage.  

     

    h)     Crimes involving serious bodily injury where a substantial risk of death exists. 

     

    i)       Other major crimes which, in the opinion of the watch commander, require an immediate response by a detective.   

     

    3.      When notified of a response situation, the on-call detective responds directly to the scene of the event within the shortest possible time.   

     

    4.      Among the things the on-call detective shall be responsible for are the following: 

    a)     Obtaining a briefing at the scene from the Patrol Division personnel. 

     

    b)     Ensuring the scene is properly secured. 

     

    c)      Notifying the coroner, if applicable.  

     

    d)     Determining the need for additional Investigation Division assistance.

     

    e)     Accepting the case for investigation unless the team sergeant reassigns it. 

     

    f)       Notifying a Major Crimes Unit sergeant as to the nature of the call out. 

     

    C.     Rule  

    The on-call detective shall not be authorized to call out additional assistance without prior contact with a Major Crimes Unit supervisor.
