B. Procedure

For citizens who are receptive and have Internet access, on-line submission of a non-emergency police report is an additional tool available by clicking the homepage link at www.lakewood.org. 
 
1. Citizens may use the on-line system to make an initial report as well as a supplemental report to a non-active case already submitted. These reports are mostly for documentation purposes and are limited to cold incidents with no collectible evidence or suspect information.
 
2. Normally, these reports will have no follow-up investigation.
 
3. The following criteria must be met: 
 
a. Non-emergency crime
b. Suspect is not identifiable
c. Incident occurred in Lakewood
d. Non-Violent crime
e. No physical evidence left behind
f. Incident isn't traffic related
 
4. Permissible crime types include:
 
a. Criminal mischief to property or vehicle. Does not include graffiti! (Separate web link is available for reporting graffiti).

b. Lost property

c. Theft from a vehicle

d. All thefts except license plates. License plate thefts require in-person or phone report.

e. Misuse of credit/debit card/ financial transaction device

f. Barking Dog Complaint 

g. Criminal Mischief/Vandalism

h. Fraud: False Pretenses, Confidence Game or Scam; False Unemployment Claim

i. Identity Theft

j. Littering / Illegal Dumping

k. Phone Harassment

l. Shoplifting – Internet report under assigned case number may be used when suspect is cited and released. Scanned store report may be submitted. Internet reporting may not be used when suspect is to be jailed or case filing is required.
