General Order 1-4.6 Flag and Anthem Protocol
  1. Salute
  2. When required as specified in this policy and under other appropriate circumstances, employees will render a salute as follows:

    Uniform Officers/Security Officers Wearing Headgear – From the position of attention, render the traditional hand salute with the right hand touching the tip of the bill of the headgear.

    Plainclothes Officers, All Non-sworn Employees, and Uniform Officers/Security
    without Headgear – From an at-ease position, place the right hand over the heart.
  3. Parades
  4. A properly executed military salute will be delivered when the flag is approximately ten feet away from the employee and maintained until the flag has passed the employee approximately ten feet. The employee need not salute any flag beyond the first flag in the parade.

  5. Flag Raising
  6. At any function where the flag is being raised, employees will deliver a properly executed military salute until the flag reaches the top of the mast. When the National Anthem is played during the flag raising, a salute is given and held until the end of the anthem.

  7. Playing of the National Anthem
  8. Employees will face the flag and deliver, at the first note of the National Anthem, a properly executed military salute. If the flag is not on display, employees will face the center of the arena or playing field and render a properly executed military salute. The salute will be maintained until the completion of the National Anthem.
