Hyperlinks - How To Add

There are many instances where inserting a hyperlink in your assessment makes the most sense — especially when a written directive or proof doesn’t already exist inside PowerDMS and is hosted elsewhere. This includes city or county policy pages, state statutes, legal references, or any other online resources your agency relies on.

Hyperlinking keeps your files organized and gives assessors quick, direct access to what they need. Whether it’s a written directive, proof of compliance, or a required reference, the process is the same.

These same steps can also be used anywhere hyperlinks are allowed within PowerDMS — including documents, training sections, and other rich-text areas.

  1. Navigate to the assessment, then open the standard where you want the hyperlink to appear.

  2. Go to the Attachments tab and click Add New Attachment.

  3. In the Type dropdown, select New Rich Text.

  4. In the Notes field, type a short, simple label for the attachment.

  5. Click the checkbox next to the part of the standard the hyperlink supports, linking the attachment appropriately.

  6. Click Save to open the rich-text editor.

  7. Click inside the main editing window to place your cursor where the hyperlink should appear.

  8. Click the Hyperlink Manager icon (globe with a chain link).

  9. Paste the full website address into the URL field.

  10. Type the text you want displayed as the hyperlink into the Link Text field.

  11. In the Target dropdown, choose New Window so users aren’t taken out of PowerDMS.

  12. To add multiple hyperlinks to the same attachment, repeat steps 7-11.

  13. Click the Preview tab at the bottom of the window, test it, and click Save.
