Event Logs

Most people don’t think about the Event Log… until they need it.

And when you need it, you really need it.

PowerDMS captures nearly every action taken within your system as an “event.” That means logins, document uploads, deletions, revisions, workflow approvals, status changes, access changes and more are all tracked behind the scenes.

The Event Log is where you go when you need answers.

What Is the Event Log?

The Event Log records system activity such as:

If something changed and you’re not sure how or when — the Event Log can tell you.

Who Can Access It?

Only Master Administrators or users with Search Event Log privileges can view it. Because it contains detailed system activity, access should be limited to appropriate administrative roles.

How to Access the Event Log

  1. Click the filter icon next to the Find Anything search bar.

  2. Select Event Log from the dropdown menu.

  3. Use the search fields to narrow your results:

  4. Click Search.

You can browse results or refine your filters further.

Note: The system displays up to 1,000 results at a time. If your search is too broad, narrow the date range for better precision.

A Word of Caution (And Reassurance)

The Event Log isn’t about policing people. It’s about transparency.

In one assessment scenario I was involved in, outdated information surfaced during review. It raised serious questions about how the file had changed. Instead of speculation, the Event Log told the story. It showed exactly when the documents were modified and by whom.

That’s the power of documentation.

It removes emotion.
It removes assumptions.
It replaces them with facts.
